On Veteran’s Day we went on a day trip to Hadrian’s Wall using only B-roads.  We started our trip mid-morning and drove to the city of Barnard Castle for lunch.  It is a small quaint city with 12th century castle ruins.  We found a nice pub for lunch and then continued on our way.

On the way we stopped several times at picturesque locations.

If I was XKCD I would have a funny comment here

or when there was traffic…

nothing funny with this mouseover either

We finally ended up at Housesteads Roman Fort, also named Vercovicium.  We looked around for a while then headed home.
